Overseas Citizenship of India
Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) is a form of permanent residency available to people of Indian origin and their spouses which allows them to live and work in India indefinitely. It allows the cardholders a lifetime entry to the country along with benefits such as being able to own land and make other investments in the country.
OCI Benefits
- Multiple entry, multi-purpose life-long visa to visit India
- Exemption from reporting to Police authorities for any length of stay in India; and
- Parity with NRIs in financial, economic and educational fields except in the acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties.
OCI Renewal & Miscellaneous Service
As an OCI card is a lifelong visa, it technically never expires. However, you still need to renew it after some time. Foreigners of Indian origin, OCI cardholder spouse, or foreign spouse of an Indian citizen can get an OCI card. As of today, OCI cardholders are required to get their card re-issued only once after attaining the age of 20 and the age of 50. If the card was issued to an applicant before reaching the age of 20, they need to get the card re-issued once when they get a new passport. This will provide necessary data about that certain applicant, including facial features. Once you get a new card, your existing OCI card will automatically expire.
